 SEASON 2 - Junior Season

ABOUT OUR JUNIOR PROGRAM

Established in 2011, Williamstown Musical Theatre Company Inc's junior program is open to young performers aged between 8 - 18 years old and aims to provide them with high quality creative learning experiences in the theatre arts. A positive, supportive and fun environment is encouraged to promote and develop self-respect, confidence, awareness, imagination, creativity, determination and social skills in young people. Cast members also develop discipline, memorization techniques, motor skills, coordination, and many other crucial foundation skills through creative dramatics and, in doing so, enhance their self-esteem, grace, and poise, both onstage and off.

Developed with the intention of sharing our passion for musical theatre with children and teens so that they, in turn, can continue this creative tradition as teachers, performers and arts patrons for generations to come, we hope you can encourage all our young performers by your support.

 SEASON 3

9th -24th November 2012

ABOUT THE SHOW
Diana Goodman, a suburban housewife, struggles through life as she battles mental demons in the form of bipolar disorder coupled with hallucinations that stem from a trauma sixteen years earlier. Her husband Dan, an architect, fights to keep her mind and his family stable but that fight becomes increasingly problematic as Diana decides to stop taking the pills given to her by her doctor. After several failed attempts to stem the tide by means of talk therapy with a different doctor, she eventually falls into an even darker place and attempts suicide. At the suggestion of her new doctor, Diana is convinced by her husband to submit to electroconvulsive therapy that causes her to have short-term amnesia. Throughout her struggles, Diana’s relationship with her daughter Natalie becomes strained because Natalie feels invisible in the eyes of her mother, who prefers the superhero-like image she has created for her son.

The musical won 2009 Tony Awards for Best Original Score, Best Orchestration and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical (for Alice Ripley).  The show was nominated for a total of 11 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Next to Normal received several workshop performances before it debuted off-Broadway in 2008, winning the Outer Critics' Circle Award for Outstanding Score and receiving nominations for Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Actress (Alice Ripley) and Outstanding Score. It then opened on Broadway in April 2009.
